IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior kicker Mike Meyer was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Special Teams Watch List for the 2012 Placekicker and Specialist Trophies. It marks the second-straight season he has been named to the preseason list.
Meyer (6-2, 185) was one of 20 semifinal candidates for the 2011 Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top placekicker. The Dubuque native made 14-of-20 field goal attempts (70%) a year ago, handling all field goals, PATs and kickoffs throughout the season. He made all 44 PATs and connected on a career-best 50-yard field goal at Iowa State. He has made 28-of-37 career field goal attempts.
The official announcement will take place January 9, 2013.
Iowa opens its 2012 season Sept. 1 against Northern Illinois at Soldier Field in Chicago. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m., CT (ESPNU).
