Coach Speak: Darrell Wilson

Aug. 11, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — – To know Darrell Wilson is to like Darrell Wilson…and there’s a lot to like.

The University of Iowa football team’s defensive backs and special teams coach has a smile a mile wide and a heart of gold and beautiful wife and four daughters. He also likes his job, a lot.

“I have the opportunity to work each day with outstanding people and quality young men who enjoy the game of football and a top tier coach in Kirk Ferentz,” said Wilson, the latest UI coach to be featured in Hawkeyes’ “Coach Speak” series of videos.

Wilson is entering his 11th season with the Hawkeyes. His assignment with the defensive backfield is a new one, coming after four seasons of coaching Iowa’s linebackers and the UI’s outside linebackers his first six years on staff.

“When you can tell me what you did wrong, we got a chance. Now, let’s stop telling me what you did wrong and let’s just do it right.”

“When you can tell me what you did wrong, we got a chance,” Wilson says with a smile during a practice inside the UI’s historic Kinnick Stadium. “Now, let’s stop telling me what you did wrong and let’s just do it right.”
