Cardwell, English and Phillips Named to B1G Watch List

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s golfers Kristi Cardwell, Lauren English, and Shelby Phillips have been named to the 2012-13 Big Ten Women’s Golf Players to Watch List. Cardwell, English, and Phillips were three of 36 golfers to appear on the watch list.

Cardwell, a senior from Kokomo, Indiana, competed in 11 tournaments, including 32 rounds, last season with a 77.83 stroke average. Cardwell’s season low was a round of 68 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. Cardwell also won her first professional event this summer, besting the field of 100 players to win the Pepsi Indiana PGA Women’s Open at Hickory Stick Golf Club on July, 3.

English, a sophomore from Bloomington, Illinois, competed in 11 tournaments, including 32 rounds, last season with a 78.44 stroke average. English finished in the top-20 at three events, with a season low of 71 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. English fired a hole-in-one on the sixth-hole of the Donald Ross Course during the first round of the Lady Northern Invitational.

Phillips, a sophomore from Gilbert, Arizona, posted a 78.13 stroke average last season. Phillips finished tied for ninth at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, a season-best. Phillips fired a season-best 72 on two occasions (Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Wyoming Cowgirl Classic). Phillips competed in 11 tournaments, including 32 rounds, last season.
