Hawkeye Sports Report: Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Gary Barta

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The second installment of the UI Athletics Department’s new weekly television show, “Hawkeye Sports Report,” is now available inside hawkeyeports.com’s Hawkeye All-Access, the multi-media portal of the world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

This week show includes a look at the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game between Iowa and Iowa State Saturday inside historic Kinnick Stadium by Rob Brooks of the Hawkeye Radio Network, a look back and forward by Ron Rainey, head coach of Iowa’s unbeaten women’s soccer team, and an introduction to volleyball standout Bethany Yeager in this week’s “24 Hawkeyes to Watch” feature.

This week’s Hawkeye Sports Report also includes a one-on-one with Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics, who talks with host Nick Doehrman about the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series and the UI’s and Iowa State’s corporate partner on that project, Iowa Corn. Barta also shares his thoughts on the rivalry with Iowa State and rivalries in college sports in general.

“What’s unique about our rivalry is that we’re not in the same conference,” Barta said, noting that all of the rivalries that he has been personally involved in featured teams from the same conference.
