IOWA CITY, Iowa — The National Football League continued regular season action over the weekend with its second week of games. A number of former Iowa Hawkeyes saw action and had success for their respective teams.
Charles Godfrey led Carolina to a 35-27 victory over New Orleans. The safety turned in an interception return for a touchdown and led the Panthers with 11 total tackles and six solo stops. Godfrey became the first rookie in team history to start all 16 games at safety in 2008. He has started 59 of the last 60 games for the Panthers.
Packers’ rookie defensive lineman Mike Daniels recorded his first career sack in Green Bay’s 23-10 victory over the Chicago Bears last Thursday night. Offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga, now in his third season with the Packers, made his 26th career start.
Tight end Dallas Clark hauled in four catches for 33 yards in Tampa Bay’s 41-34 loss at the New York Giants Sunday. Second-year defensive end, and former No. 1 selection of the Buccaneers, Adrian Clayborn, made his 18th career start.
Brandon Myers, starting his 14th career game for Oakland at tight end, led the Raiders in receptions (six) and receiving yards (86) in their loss at Miami. He leads the team with 151 receiving yards this season and ranks second behind Darren McFadden with 11 receptions.
Tight end Scott Chandler caught two passes for 53 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo’s win over Kansas City. He leads the Bills with six receptions and two touchdowns this year. Tony Moeaki caught one pass for nine yards for the Chiefs. Offensive lineman Marshal Yanda made his 60th career start for Baltimore in its loss to Philadelphia. Defensive back Sean Considine registered a solo tackle for the Ravens.
In a game involving six Hawkeyes, Indianapolis earned its first victory of the season over the visiting Minnesota Vikings. Chad Greenway, a former Iowa All-American, turned in seven total tackles for Minnesota. Offensive lineman Seth Olsen, who made his first career start for the Colts in 2011, started his second-straight game to open the season.
Bradley Fletcher notched two solo tackles and a pass defended in the Rams’ home-opening win over Washington.
Former Iowa All-American Shonn Greene, the 2008 Doak Walker Award Winner, carried 11 times for 23 yards in the Jets’ loss at Pittsburgh.
Nate Kaeding, the NFL’s all-time most accurate field goal kicker (.868), made a field goal and five extra points in San Diego’s win over Tennessee. Defensive lineman Karl Klug registered a tackle for the Titans.
Detroit defensive back Amari Spievey posted one tackle as the Lions fell at San Francisco on Sunday night.
Defensive lineman Jonathan Babineaux and the Atlanta Falcons round out the NFL week 2 action tonight when they host Denver on Monday Night Football at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.
