Honorary Football Captain: Chic Ejiasi

Sept. 21, 2012

Video interview with C. Ejiasi

IOWA CITY, Iowa — “We were guys who wanted to get it done,” Chic Ejiasi told the University of Iowa football players Friday after practice.

Boy, did they ever get it done. From 2001-04, when Ejiasi played for UI head coach Kirk Ferentz, the Hawkeyes compiled a record of 38-12, winning three bowl games and two Big Ten Conference championships.

Ejiasi is honorary captain for Saturday’s final nonconference tilt of the 2012 season against Central Michigan. The game begins at 11 a.m. (CT) and will be televised nationally by the Big Ten Network.

“It’s a complete honor for me to get the word from coach Ferentz that he wanted me to be honorary captain,” Ejiasi said. “It means a lot to be in this role representing the team in this way.” For the last five years Ejiasi has been director of player development for the Hawkeye football team. As a player, he was primarily used on special teams.

“We were pretty aggressive and we did everything we could to win and be physical on the football team as a special teams unit,” Ejiasi said. “We were guys who wanted to get it done.”
