Dierckx Earns Penn Flight Consolation Title

Penn Day 3 Consolation Results

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team finished up final day action at the Penn Invitational on Sunday. Jonas Dierckx was the only Hawkeye to compete today, winning the Penn Flight Consolation championship match.

Dierckx squared off against Benjamin Gilman of Lehigh in the final round for the championship. Dierckx fell down early, losing his first set 3-6, but rebounded nicely and won the final two sets 6-2, 6-0 to claim the victory. Dierckx had to rattle off three-straight singles wins over the course of the weekend to win the bracket.

The Hawkeyes’ next action will be at the ITA Regionals in Minneapolis, Minn. starting Oct. 18.
