IOWA CITY, Iowa — The “black” squad downed the “gold” squad, 136-82, in the University of Iowa swimming and diving team’s Black & Gold intrasquad meet Saturday afternoon inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool.

“This meet is about having fun and raising awareness for heart disease and that part was accomplished,” said UI head coach Marc Long. “This was a practice meet, it’s a fun meet, and they have been working so hard in practice. It was good to get out and race.”

Sophomore Becky Stoughton paced the women’s team, recording three wins on the afternoon. She opened with a victory in the 1,000-free (10:15.58) and followed with wins in the 500 free (5:04.48) and 200 IM (2:06.21).

On the men’s side, freshman Roman Trussov sizzled in his Hawkeye debut, posting the sixth fastest time in school history in the 100 breast. The Kazakhstan native touched the wall in 55.04 seconds to claim the event title in front of sophomore Korey Schneider.
