Men's Tennis Compete in Day One at Big Ten Singles/Doubles

Madison, Wis. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team competed in day one of the Big Ten Singles/Doubles tournament on Friday. Day one action was highlighted by three doubles victories and four Hawkeyes advancing in singles play.

Dominic Patrick continued his impressive fall season by defeating Jakhongir Jalalov of Wisconsin 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-4 in his opening match. Patrick will face Bruno Abdelnour of Illinois in the second round. Garret Dunn picked up his first singles victory of the fall season, defeating Arthur Dobradin of Purdue 6-3, 6-1. Dunn will face Ross Guignon of Illinois in the second round. Both Jonas Dierckx and Matt Hagan advanced after first round byes.

Doubles action was highlighted by three Hawkeye victories. Hagan and Dierckx defeated Linders and Mullane of Michigan State, 8-2. Next up, Dunn and Michael Swank knocked off Young and Chen of Penn State, 8-6. Lastly, Joey White and Andres Estenssoro defeated Zade and Davis of Michigan State, 8-6. All three Hawkeye pairs fell in their second round matches.

Day two action will continue at the University of Wisconsin on Saturday.
