IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive back Micah Hyde is looking forward to the weekend, as the Hawkeyes return home to Kinnick Stadium to host Purdue (11:01 a.m., BTN). Hyde and the Hawkeyes will honor the military as part of Veterans Day, but he is also focused on getting his team back on the winning track.
“Purdue is a tough opponent, we know we will have another tough game,” said Hyde, following Wednesday’s practice in Kinnick Stadium. “But we have to get a win; we have to get that spark back. We will need to come out Saturday and execute better, play well in all areas, such as special teams and getting turnovers. We know we are facing another good opponent.”
Hyde will serve as an Iowa captain again this weekend and he is ready to lead his teammates. The native of Fostoria, Ohio, has led by his actions on the field through nine games. Hyde ranks fourth on the team in tackles with 66 stops, moving past 200 career tackles earlier this season. He leads the Hawkeyes with 11 pass break-ups and handles all punt returns, averaging 6.2 yards per return.
“We know this is another team that relies on the passing game,” said Hyde. “We have to know what to do and can’t have mistakes. As an older player, I try to help teach the young guys during the week so they can be comfortable out there on the field on Saturday.”
