IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball team fell in straight sets to Indiana on Saturday night (21-25, 23-25, 16-25). The match, played on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, saw 17 tie scores and six lead changes.

The win improves the Hoosiers’ record to 12-16 overall and 4-12 in Big Ten play; the Hawkeyes fall to 10-19 and 2-14 in league action. The victory gives Indiana a split of the season series. Iowa won the first meeting between the two league foes, 3-1, in Bloomington, Ind., on Oct. 5.

Nikki Dailey registered her team-leading 17th double-double of the season. The junior posted 30 assists and 10 digs. Classmate Bethany Yeager, who ranks fifth all-time in program history with 1,483 career digs, recorded a match-high 17.

Sophomore Alex Lovell paced Iowa with 13 kills. She leads the Hawkeyes with 339 this season. Junior Rachael Bedell registered 10 kills. Sophomores Alessandra Dietz and Erin Leppek tallied seven, and five, respectively. Freshman Julianne Blomberg turned in four kills and three digs in her second career start.

The Hawkeyes and Hoosiers traded points to begin the opening frame. With the set tied, 12-12, Indiana used a 7-2 run to grab a 19-14 lead and force an Iowa timeout. The Hawkeyes answered with a 9-4 scoring run to cut the Hoosier advantage to two points at 23-21. Following an Indiana timeout, the visitors claimed consecutive points to earn a 25-21 first set victory. The Hoosiers hit .256 in the frame, while Iowa hit .116. The set saw six tie scores and two lead changes. Lovell equaled a set-high with four kills. Leppek, Blomberg and Bedell each turned in three kills. Dailey added 11 assists and Yeager paced all with seven digs.

Trailing 10-6 in the second set, the Hawkeyes used a four point run to even the score. The teams split the next 20 points, leading to a 20-20 score. Two consecutive Iowa points forced an Indiana timeout. Trailing 22-20, the Hoosiers claimed five of the final six points to grab a 2-0 match lead with a 25-23 set victory. Indiana hit .368 in the frame, and Iowa turned in a .222 attack percentage. The set saw eight tie scores and two lead changes. Bedell paced the Hawkeyes with five kills in the frame. Lovell added four and Dietz added three. Dailey turned in 13 assists and Yeager posted a set-best seven digs.

Following the intermission, the Big Ten foes exchanged the first 10 points. Indiana used a 10-3 run to force a Hawkeye timeout and take control of the set. The Hoosiers hit .387 en route to a 25-16 third set and match victory. Iowa hit .167 in the final frame, and was led by Lovell. She recorded five kills.

Iowa continues action next weekend on the road. The Hawkeyes play at Wisconsin on Friday (7:30 p.m. CT) before traveling to No. 10 Minnesota on Saturday (6:30 p.m. CT). The match against the Gophers can be seen live on BTN.com.
