Beyond The Bio: Alie Glover

Former GymHawk Jessa Hansen sits down with freshman Alie Glover. In 2012, Glover qualified to the Junior Olympic National Championships, placing 16th on vault. Glover placed fourth in the all-around competition and third on the vault at the Region 8 Championships. Glover finished second in the all-around at the Florida State Championship in 2012 and fourth in the all-around in 2011. Glover competed for Gymnastics Plus under coaches Steve and Sue Arkell.

What is your first gymnastics memory?
“In my first competition I had to have my coach hold my hand all the way through my beam routine.”

What is your favorite place in Iowa City?
“The Pentacrest. I love to just sit on the steps and relax between classes.”

What is your favorite food?
“Steak”

What is your favorite movie?
Sweet Home Alabama

Who is your favorite music artist?
“Luke Bryan”

Where is a place you would like to visit?
“I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. It seems like there would be so many exciting things to try there, like surfing, scuba diving, seeing the wildlife. It would be an amazing trip!”

What are your goals for the 2013 season?
“I want to contribute to the team on each event to the best of my ability.”

Why did you choose to attend the University of Iowa?
“I love the atmosphere and the campus. The coaches and team are like a second family. It is great always having them for support.”

What has being at Iowa taught you?
“Iowa has really taught me how to be independent and make my own decisions. Whether it comes down to getting an assignment done early or even getting enough sleep, being here has helped me learn to make the right choices on my own.”

What are your pre-meet rituals?
“I always sleep in. Then I listen to upbeat music on my IPod going into the meet.”

Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“Definitely Alicia Sacramone. I love her style of gymnastics as well as the confidence she always has in her performances. Sadly, I have not her yet.”

If you could guest star on any television series, which would you choose?
Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve watched nearly every episode and love so many of the actors and actresses on the show. It would be exciting just being in the same room with them, let alone working together.”

What is your ideal career?
“Physical Therapist. I would love to help other athletes recover from injuries and become stronger than they were before. Knowing that I helped someone thrive in the sport they love would be incredibly rewarding. The University of Iowa offers one of the top physical therapy programs in the country.”

What is your most memorable gymnastics moment?
“Winning Level 7 State Championships. I had never won a competition before that meet. Standing on the podium felt like such a big deal. It was definitely one of my proudest moments.”
