IOWA CITY, Iowa — This year’s Super Bowl will mark the 10th-straight in which a former Hawkeye has played in the game, marking the eighth-longest streak in the nation.

The Iowa football program ranked tied for ninth in the nation with 10 former players on NFL playoff rosters, to open the postseason.

Iowa tied for ninth in the nation with 25 former players on active NFL rosters this season. In addition, nine other Hawkeyes resided on practice squads or injured reserve.

Iowa ties for second in the Big Ten amongst NFL alumni on active rosters. Ohio State leads the way with 35, while the Hawkeyes and Michigan both have 25. Iowa has five former tight ends in the league, which equals USC and Stanford for the most.

The National Football League crowned its NFC and AFC champions on Sunday. A number of former Iowa Hawkeyes saw action with their respective teams.

Jonathan Babineaux – DL – Atlanta Falcons: Babineaux recorded four total tackles, including three solo stops, in the loss to San Francisco on Sunday. He has started the last 78 games for Atlanta. Babineaux led the Falcons with eight tackles for loss this year.

Sean Considine – DB – Baltimore Ravens: Considine recorded three tackles, including two solo stops, in the Ravens road win at New England on Sunday. Considine will join former Hawkeye and Ravens teammate Marshal Yanda in New Orleans for Super Bowl XLVII.

Brad Herman – TE – New England Patriots: In his first year in the league, Herman is on the Patriots’ injured reserve list.

Jeff Tarpinian – LB – New England Patriots: Tarpinian is a member of New England’s practice squad. He played in seven games with one start for the Patriots in 2011, and played in three contests this season.

Marshal Yanda – OL – Baltimore Ravens: Yanda, named an AFC Pro Bowl starter for the second-straight season, started for the Ravens in their 28-13 win at New England on Sunday. He has made 75 career starts in six years for the Ravens. Yanda, who was named to the Pro Football Weekly/PFWA 2012 All-NFL Team, and former Hawkeye and Ravens teammate Sean Considine, will play in New Orleans in Super Bowl XLVII.

Markus Zusevics – OL – New England Patriots: In his first year in the league, Zusevics has not seen action to date.
