Hawkeyes Finish Fourth at Metroplex Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team finished fourth late Friday night at the Metroplex Challenge, scoring a 422.750. No. 4 Oklahoma finished first with a 441.500, followed by No. 5 Ohio State in second (429.400), No. 6 Illinois placing third (428.300), and Texas A&M’s club team placed fifth, and a team of Texas collegiate all-stars placed sixth.

Iowa finished with a total of 422.750. The Hawkeyes’ best finish came on still rings. Iowa finished third on the event with a 74.550. Senior Anton Gryshayev won the event, scoring a school record 15.800. The score was the highest of any in the inaugural Metroplex Challege. Gryshayev owns the top five scores on rings in program history.

The Hawkeyes posted a score of 71.100 on vault and 71.050 on the floor. In addition, Iowa registered a 68.900 on the bars, a 68.700 on the high bar and a 68.450 on the pommel horse.

Iowa will return to action on Feb. 2. The Hawkeyes will host their home opener against No. 4 Oklahoma, the 2012 NCAA runner-up. The event will take place at Carver Hawkeye Arena at 5:00 p.m.
