IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa director of volleyball operations Angie Boldt has been promoted to interim assistant coach, UI head coach Sharon Dingman announced Wednesday. Boldt completed her fifth season as director of volleyball operations at Iowa in 2012.
“Angie’s familiarity with the program and the student-athletes is tremendous,” said Dingman, who completed her fifth season at Iowa in 2012. “The thing I am most excited about, for the student-athletes, the fans, and everyone is to get to experience the knowledge that Angie brings to the game of volleyball. To have her in this role, now we can utilize her and her full volleyball mind. She has a great volleyball mind. Now we can put it to use in the gym; everyone will benefit.”
“I am thrilled that coach Sharon Dingman and the University of Iowa have given me this great opportunity,” said Boldt. “I have been with Iowa volleyball for five seasons and believe in the foundation and leadership that Sharon has built for this program.
“I look forward to teaching and inspiring our student-athletes and working alongside Sharon to help this program achieve its ultimate goals. It’s an exciting time to be a part of Iowa volleyball, and I am grateful to be a part of the journey.”
Boldt came to Iowa after serving as a graduate assistant with volleyball operations at the University of Alabama from 2006-08. She helped lead the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament during both of her seasons in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has advanced to the tournament three times in school history.
Prior to her stint at Alabama, Boldt was a student worker for volleyball operations at the University of Nebraska from 2003-06. During her time, the Cornhuskers were a perennial top-five program and won the 2006 NCAA national championship.
Boldt has extensive coaching experience at the club level. She served as both an assistant and co-head coach for the South Central Volleyball Club in St. Paul, Neb., from 2003-06. The team advanced to nationals in 2003. Boldt taught private lessons at the Nebraska Volleyball Academy in Lincoln, Neb., in 2006 and served as both an assistant and co-head coach for the Club Crimson Volleyball Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She helped start the club — the first in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Boldt has also served as a coach for the Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club, based in Eastern Iowa. She has led the Rockets to nationals in each of the last four years, including fifth place finishes in 2009 and 2011.
The St. Paul, Neb., native graduated from Nebraska in 2006 with a degree in education and human sciences, with endorsements in natural sciences and coaching. She received her master’s in sport management from Alabama in the spring of 2008.
Boldt is married to Iowa volleyball assistant coach Ben Boldt.
“Angie and Ben create such positive learning environments for our players,” said Dingman. “I am really excited. We are moving Ben into the recruiting coordinator position. There is a new sense of excitement. The energy is fresh and everyone is excited about their new role and is embracing it.”
