AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team currently sits in seventh place at the Challenge at Onion Creek, hosted by Texas State at the Onion Creek Original Course. The Hawkeyes carded a two-round total of 597 (+37). Iowa fired a first round total of 302 (+22) and a second round total of 295 (+15).
Senior Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes on Monday, firing identical rounds of 72 (+2). Cardwell sank 25 pars over the course of her two rounds. Cardwell is tied for eighth heading into the final day.
Sophomore Lauren English put together two strong rounds on the first day of play, carding a 73 (+3) in her first round and then shaved two strokes in her second round to come in with a 71 (+1). English shot one-under par in her last nine holes of play. English is also tied for eighth.
Sophomore Shelby Phillips struggled in her first round, firing an 81 (+11), but rebounded in her second round and posted a 73 (+3). Phillips drained five birdies in her two rounds. Phillips is tied for 46th.
Freshman Briana Midkiff posted rounds of 76 (+6) and 79 (+9), carding 20 holes at par or better. Midkiff is tied for 49th.
Freshman Amy Ihm posted rounds of 82 (+12) and 85 (+15) during her first day of play. Ihm is tied for 66th individually.
Final round action will begin at 8 a.m. (CT) Tuesday with a shotgun start.
