IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will close out the 2012-13 season with the Long Course Intrasquad Meet inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
The meet will feature 18 events with the first round being a “knockout” format where swimmers will compete to determine the top-eight competitors to move on to round two. The top-four competitors from round two will advance to the third round and the top-two competitors from round three will advance to an event final.
The UI men’s team is coming off a 32nd place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships, where they tallied 14 points to record the program’s third-straight top-35 showing. Four Iowa swimmers garnered honorable mention All-America accolades. Sophomore Grant Betulius earned the distinction individually in the 100-yard backstroke. He was also an All-American in the 200 and 400-medley relays along with seniors Jordan Huff and Byron Butler and junior Andrew Marciniak.
The Iowa men’s team finished the dual season with a 7-3 record and a No. 20 national ranking, and the team finished seventh at the Big Ten Championships with 245 points. The Hawkeye women’s team finished 7-2 in duals and placed 10th at the Big Ten Championships with 113 points.
