THIS WEEK The University of Iowa men’s tennis team (7-14, 0-9) wraps up its spring season this weekend hosting Big Ten foe Wisconsin (11-10, 2-7) Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Admission is free. The Hawkeyes then travel to Minneapolis on Sunday to take on Minnesota (11-9, 7-2) at noon.
DUNN AND HAGAN TAKE DOWN RANKED OPPONENT Playing in the No. 1 doubles slot, senior Garret Dunn and sopohomore Matt Hagan defeated Evan King and Alex Buzzi of Michigan, 8-4. Heading into the match, King and Buzzi were the No. 37th ranked doubles pairing in the nation. The win improves Dunn and Hagan’s record to 3-0 when playing together in doubles play. All three wins have come while competing in the No. 1 doubles slot.
IOWA WINS DOUBLES POINT AGAINST MICHIGAN STATE The Hawkeyes got off to a fast start last Friday against Michigan State winning the first two doubles matches to gain the doubles point. Garret Dunn and Matt Hagan continued their strong play taking down Linders and Jadun of Michigan State, 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles slot. Joey White and Michael Swank then defeated Pfister and Bogatov of Michigan State, 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles slot to secure the doubles point for the Hawkeyes. It was the second time the Hawkeyes won the doubles point against a Big Ten opponent this season.
HEAD COACH Steve Houghton Steve Houghton, the dean of Big Ten tennis coaches, is in his 32nd year as head coach of the Hawkeyes. He has compiled a career record of 339-377 (.473), recording the most wins of any coach in Iowa men’s tennis history.
