Hawkeyes Move Up Leaderboard

FRENCH LICK, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 306 (+18) on Saturday during the second round of the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind. The Hawkeyes moved up one spot on the leaderboard and enter Sunday’s third and final round in ninth place with a 36-hole score 619 (+43).

“We definitely came out strong today and got off to a nice start,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “We have positioned ourselves nicely to move up the leaderboard tomorrow.”

Senior Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes on Saturday shooting an even par, 72. Cardwell sunk six birdies in her second round of play and is tied for 10th.

Sophomore Shelby Phillips shot a 76 (+4) on the second day of play. Phillips played 14 holes at or below par on Saturday and is tied for 33rd.

Sophomore Lauren English carded her second straight round of 78 (+6) on Saturday. English played 11 holes at or below par and is also tied for 33rd.

Senior Gigi DiGrazia posted an 80 (+8) on the second day of action and is tied for 43rd place.

Nicole Rae and Briana Midkiff struggled during day two shooting 83 (+11) and 84 (+12), respectively.

Final round action at the Big Ten Championships start tomorrow at 7 a.m. (CT).
