FRENCH LICK, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished play at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday in French Lick, Ind. The Hawkeyes carded a 305 (+17) on the final day of competition to place ninth with a 54-hole score of 924 (+60).
“Today was a great competitive opportunity for us and I was really proud of the way we played,” said head coach Megan Menzel.
Senior Kristi Cardwell posted a solid round of 76 (+4) on the final day of play shooting 13 holes at or below par. Cardwell carded a 54-hole score of 225 (+9) and finished tied for 12th.
“Krisit has been a great competitor and leader for us all year,” said Menzel.
Sophomore Shelby Phillips paced the Hawkeyes on the final day of play firing a 75 (+3). Phillips sunk three birdies in her final round to card a 54-hole score of 231 (+15). Phillips placed 31st.
Sophomore Lauren English and senior Gigi DiGrazia shot identical rounds of 77 (+5) on Sunday. English finished with a 54-hole score of 233 (+17) while DiGrazia came in with a 236 (+20). English tied for 35th while DiGrazia finished tied for 41st.
Sophomore Nicole Rae carded an 82 (+10) on the last day of competition. Rae collected nine pars in her last round on her way to posting a 54-hole score of 245 (+29). Rae finished in 63rd place.
Freshman Briana Midkiff fired an 83 (+11) on Sunday shooting 10 holes at or below par. Midkiff carded a 54-hole score of 246 (+30) and finished tied for 64th.
The conference tournament was the last competition of the 2012-2013 season, wrapping up Menzel’s second season as head coach.
“I have seen a lot of growth in our team this year,” said Menzel. “It was great to see Kristi and Gigi finish the tournament strong.”
