IOWA CITY, Iowa — Brandon King has been named an assistant coach with the University of Iowa swimming and diving program, UI head coach Marc Long announced Tuesday.
King’s position is newly-created and completes the five-person Hawkeye coaching staff.
“Brandon has proven himself as a great developer of talent and is a real student of the sport,” said Long. “It is exciting to add another talented, enthusiastic, and passionate coach to our staff.”
King joins the Hawkeyes out of Naperville, Ill., where he served as a senior assistant coach alongside decorated head coach Dave Krotiak for the Fox Valley Swim Team from 2011-13. During his time with the program, King assisted the Illinois Senior Coach of the Year and coached multiple swimmers competing at the Junior Nationals, Grand Prix meets and Olympic Trials.
From 2010-12, King was the head girls and assistant boys swim coach at Neuqua Valley (Ill.) High School for two seasons. He led the program to two top-10 finishes, including a third-place showing at the Illinois High School Association state finals, broke five school records in two seasons and coached a student-athlete to two individual state titles.
King, who coached a number of All-Americans in his two-year stint, was named the Illinois High School Association Coach of the Year in 2012.
King swam collegiately at Hope College in Holland, Mich., where he was a four-year letter winner and school record holder. He was an NCAA All-American and All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection in 2009-10. He also was named to the MIAA Honor Roll of Athletes in 2009-10 and was a Dean’s List honoree.
King earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education with a health minor from Hope College in 2010.
