INDIANAPOLIS — University of Iowa swimmers Mike Nelson and Grant Betulius advanced to the finals at the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championship Trials.
Nelson, a sophomore from Tempe, Ariz., finished ninth in the preliminaries in the 50-meter breaststroke, posting a time of 28.59 seconds.
Betulius, a junior from Naperville, Ill., posted the 15th-fastest time in the preliminaries of the 50-meter backstroke, touching out in 26.03 seconds.
Both individuals earned a second swim in the “B” finals, which begin at 5 p.m. (CT) tonight at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
Nelson and Betulius will also compete in the 100-meter breaststroke and 100-meter backstroke, respectively, Friday, and senior Emily Hovren will swim in the 200-meter individual medley Saturday.
