IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa diver Deidre Freeman won the national title in the women’s synchronized 3-meter event Saturday at the AT&T National Diving Championships. Freeman teamed with Kaylea Arnett of Spring, Texas.

The duo claimed their first national title together after finishing with 286.35 points to win the event. Karlee Price and Carolyn Chaney, both of Florida, earned the silver medal with 262.56 points.

“It is amazing,” said Freeman. “I am glad I was able to do it with Kaylea. Before every dive, I just told her `let’s have fun.’

“Being at home has been awesome. It has been great having people I know able to watch me. Normally, I don’t have any fans cheering for me, so it was great having my teammates here to watch me.”

Freeman will go for her second national championship — and third medal — Sunday in the 3-meter springboard event. She was in first place in the event following the semifinals, and she earned a silver in the 1-meter earlier this week.
