Former Hawkeye Wins National Title

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Former University of Iowa cross country and track and field standout Meghan Armstrong (Peyton) won her first national title at the 36th Stratton Faxon New Haven Road Race on Monday. The 27-year old Hawkeye alum crossed the 20,000 meter finish line in just under an hour and 10 minutes (1:09:56), 28 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Peyton, a native of Minneapolis, was a four-time All-American and all-region honoree, and a two-time All-Big Ten selection. She won two Big Ten Championships and set school records in the 1,500 meters (track) and 6,000 meters (cross country). Peyton was also awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2008.
