WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team continued its fall season Saturday with competition at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
After winning his first singles match as a Hawkeye yesterday, freshman Nils Hallestrand advanced to the Flight C quarterfinals with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Pat O’Neill of IUPUI before falling in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) to Adam Reinhart of DePaul.
The doubles tandem of Michael Swank and Joey White won both matches today in the Flight A consolation bracket advancing to the semifinals of the consolation bracket. The Hawkeye senior duo will face Bishop/Moe of Xavier at 8 a.m. (CT) tomorrow. Also competing in the Flight A consolation bracket today were Juan Estenssoro and Dominic Patrick, who won their second round match against a duo from the University of Chicago, 8-5, before falling in the quarterfinals.
The doubles team of Chase Tomlins and Hallestrand got off to fast starts this morning winning their first two matches in the Flight B main draw, winning 9-8 (7-4) and 8-4. Tomlins and Hallestrand then dropped their quarterfinal match to a duo from UW-Green Bay, 8-4.
Patrick won his first singles match today in the consolation bracket, 6-3, 6-1, over Eric Klawitter of Case Western.
Competition concludes tomorrow on the campus of Purdue.
