AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a 308 (+28) on Tuesday in the final round of the Challenge at Onion Creek to put its 54-hole total at 898 (+58) and place sixth out of 11 teams.
“Another solid tournament for Jessie Sindlinger, and I thought Briana Midkiff showed some solid improvement this week,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “It was good experience to be within striking distance of the leaders.”
The Hawkeyes were led by Jessie Sindlinger, who fired a final round 73 (+3). The freshman consistently carded three-over-par to end with a 219 (+9) tournament total to tie for 11th place. Sophomore Briana Midkiff joined Sindlinger in the top-20, shooting a 79 (+9) in her final round. Midkiff’s score of 224 (+14) tied her for 19th.
Juniors Shelby Phillips and Lauren English also had contributing scores, firing a 78 (+8) and 81 (+11), respectively. Phillips carded a 228 (+18) overall to tie for 31st, while English’s final score of 230 (+20) tied for 37th place.
Junior Nicole Rae fired a 79 (+8), contributing to her total of 231 (+31) to finish 40th. Freshman Allison Lindley competed as an individual. Lindley impressed in her final round, shooting four-over-par to finish with a 54-hole score of 230 (+20).
“I think we walked away with some valuable experience,” said Menzel. ” I know the whole team is looking forward to competing at home in a couple of weeks.”
The Hawkeyes return to action in their home debut Oct. 12-13 when they host the Diane Thomason Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held at Finkbine Golf Course with an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start both days. The 12-team field features Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee, USF, GRU Augusta, and Campbell.
