- 24 Hawkeyes to Watch
In our countdown to the start of the 2013-14 hoops season, we will feature all 11 Hawkeyes. Today, we feature sophomore forward Claire Till.
Till hails from Dubuque, Iowa. The former Wahlert High School standout wears No. 3 for the Hawkeyes. Till (6-foot-0) played in 16 games as a freshman last season.
Iowa opens the regular season Friday, hosting UC Riverside inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the Hawkeye Challenge at 6 p.m.
What is it like working with the coaching staff?
“I love them. I have known them most of my life, and this is always where I have wanted to be. To have the privilege and opportunity to work with some of the best coaches in the country is awesome.”
Key factor in recruitment:
“I have always wanted to be here, being from Iowa and knowing these coaches. Growing up, I came to Iowa camp for as long as I can remember. I know most of the teams back for a couple of years. I always wanted to be a Hawkeye and had my mind set. Given the opportunity, I was going to take it for sure.”
Facet of game you are working on:
“My outside shooting is something that I’m working on; ball handling needs to improve and being stronger down low. Post moves and defense. Being quicker and reacting on drives and rebounding.”
Team goals:
“We have a lot of goals. As far as big goals, same ones every year. State champs, Big Ten champs, Big Ten Tournament champs. But before those it’s the small goals we have day-to-day. Giving 100% at practice or 100% in every drill. Coming in and doing your best knowing this is where we get better and this is how we get those outcomes.”
Story behind your jersey number:
“When I was younger I was a huge Diana Taurasi and Candace Parker fan. They both happened to be No. 3 and I was like “I need to be No. 3.” So that’s it. I grew up watching them and they are awesome.”
Pre-game ritual/superstitions:
“Not superstitions, but I love to dance and get really hyper and do whatever I want and try to jack the team up. We all dance together and are loud in the locker room. I like to sing to the songs when we are warming up and the music is playing. Everyone has their own style and moves. Whether they are trying to be funny, or can actually dance, everyone is good.”
Summer free time:
“Like most of my teammates, we just like to chill and relax; watch movies. We all hang out outside of practice because we like to be together.”
