Iowa Soccer Releases Spring Schedule

Jan. 29, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team announced the details of its 2014 spring schedule Wednesday. The Hawkeyes will play six contests — three against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams — and host a pair of matches in Iowa City.

Iowa opens the spring season indoors, hosting Western Illinois on March 1 inside the UI’s Indoor Practice Facility. On March 8, the Hawkeyes will face NCAA qualifier Arkansas in a neutral site matchup in St. Louis. The Razorbacks were 15-8-1 in 2013.

After a three-week break, the Hawkeyes will travel to Milwaukee for a pair of March 30 contests. Iowa will face Marquette at 11 a.m. (CT) and Wisconsin Milwaukee at 2:30 p.m. at Engelmann Stadium.

The Golden Eagles were a No. 2 seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament before being upset, 1-0, in a first round matchup against Western Michigan. Marquette finished the season with an 18-4 record. The Panthers made their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013 and finished 10-9-1 overall.

Iowa heads to Lawrence, Kan., for its final road trip of the spring, facing Kansas on April 5. The matchup pits the Hawkeyes against the alma mater of assistant coach Julie Hanley. Iowa closes out the spring at the Iowa Soccer Complex, hosting Northern Illinois on April 26 at 3 p.m.

The Hawkeyes enters the spring on the heels of the most successful season in program history. Iowa won a school-record 15 games, advanced to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament and earned its first ever NCAA Tournament berth. The team finished 15-7-1 — its third-straight season with 12 or more victories.
