BOISE, Idaho — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team posted a season-high 195.350 on Friday night, falling at No. 17 Boise State, 196.975-195.350. Iowa’s previous season-high score occurred last time out in the Hawkeyes’ win over UIC on Feb. 23 (195.125).
Iowa began the meet on bars, posting a season best 48.975, surpassing its previous best of 48.900 against Ohio State on Feb. 14. Junior Sydney Hoerr paced the GymHawks with a 9.850. Boise State tallied a 49.325 on vault during the first rotation.
Once on vault, freshman Jordyn Doherty led the Hawkeyes with a 9.875, topping her previously set 9.850 against Ohio State. This added to a new season best for the GymHawks on vault with a 49.025 outdoing the 48.925 posted against Ohio State. Iowa trailed leading into the third rotation 98.825-98.000.
In the third rotation, the Hawkeyes totaled a 48.775 on floor with Hoerr leading the way posting a 9.825. The Broncos tallied a 49.00 on beam, maintaining their lead into the final rotation 147.825-146.775.
During the final rotation on beam, the GymHawks tallied a 48.575. Hoerr added to the teams total by posting a 9.775. The Broncos edged out the Hawkeyes, 196.975-195.350.
In the all-around competition, Hoerr finished second to Boise State’s Kelsey Morris, with a 39.250. Sophomore Alie Glover and freshman Angel Metcalf also competed for the all-around, finished third (39.075) and fourth (38.475), respectively.
Iowa returns to action at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa on March 7. The meet is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. (CT) inside Hilton Coliseum.
