Hawkeyes Tied for 10th After Opening Round

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a 302 (+18) in the opening round at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami at the Biltmore Golf Course (par 71, yardage 6,092). The Hawkeyes sit tied for 10th in a field of 17 teams, including nine nationally ranked opponents.

Junior Shelby Phillips was Iowa’s top finisher in the opening round. Phillips fired three birdies to score a 73 (+2), tying for 24th place.

Freshman Jessie Sindlinger is tied for 41st after shooting a 75 (+4).

Senior Karly Grouwinkel and junior Nicole Rae carded a 77 (+6). The Hawkeye duo is tied for 59th after 18-holes of play.

Briana Midkiff rounded out the Iowa line up. The sophomore is tied for 92nd after recording an 83 (+12) in the opening round.

The Hurricane Invitational resumes action tomorrow with the second round beginning at 6:30 a.m. (CT). Tee times are in eight-minute intervals off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday with the final round beginning with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. (CT). Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
