Hawkeyes Place 15th at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a 309 (+25) in the final round to finish the Hurricane Invitational with a team score of 911 (+59). The Hawkeyes placed 15th in a field of 17, including nine ranked opponents.

“It was great to see Karly come through on the last day and post her low round of the year,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “She has come a long way, and her hard work is starting to show. Shelby continues to be solid. We have to work to be more consistent as a team.”

Junior Shelby Phillips was Iowa’s top finisher in the tournament. Phillips carded a 76 (+5) for a 54-hole score of 221 (+8) to tie for 26th place.

Senior Karly Grouwinkel recorded a 72 (+1), marking a new career best single round performance. She tied for 45th with a 226 (+13) tournament total.

After shooting an 81 (+10) in the final round, freshman Jessie Sindlinger finished in a tie for 65th place with a 231 (+18).

Junior Nicole Rae fired an 80 (+9) for a 54-hole total of 236 (+23). Rae’s score tied her for 81st place on the leaderboard.

Sophomore Briana Midkiff carded an 84 (+13). Her tournament total of 243 (+3) was good for 89th.

The Hawkeyes return to action March 17-18 when they travel to St. George, Utah to compete in the BYU Entrada Classic. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at golfstat.com.
