March 16, 2014

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – In a format change from its normal routine, the University of Iowa women’s golf team competed in a dual event against Texas State on Saturday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Hawkeyes defeated the Bobcats by seven points.

“We had a great time kicking off our spring break with our match against Texas State,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “The team was ready to get back out after we struggled a bit at the Hurricane Invitational. They competed well today, and it felt great we could get the win.”

The dual featured six head-to-head matchups, with the format as follows:

One point is given for the lowest front nine score
One point is given for the lowest back nine score
One point is given for the lowest overall score

In total, there were 18 points up for grabs.

The pairings for the event were: Shelby Phillips vs Iman Nordin, Jessie Sindlinger vs Millie Saroha, Karly Grouwinkel vs Lora Assad, Nicole Rae vs Lejan Lewthwaite, Briana Midkiff vs Mara Puisite, and Allison Lindley vs Ali Cowan.

The Hawkeyes continue their spring break trip at the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah on March 17-18. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
