Hawkeyes Tied for 10th at BYU Entrada Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah — The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits tied for 10th after two rounds of play at the BYU Entrada Classic at the Snow Canyon Country Club on Monday. The competition features 16 teams, including three ranked opponents. The Hawkeyes fired a 315 (+27) in the opening round followed by a 336 (+48) for a 36-hole total of 651 (+75).

“Today was definitely a struggle,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “The high wind conditions made Entrada a very tough track. Our wind play certainly needs to improve. Tough weather is always a good equalizer, and we need to be able to capitalize on those opportunities.”

Junior Shelby Phillips led the Black and Gold, carding eight-over-par in both rounds. Phillips’ score of 160 (+16) ties her for 23rd on the leaderboard.

After 36 holes, junior Nicole Rae and freshman Jessie Sindlinger sit tied for 48th place. Rae shot a 74 (+2) in the opening round to record a new career best 18-hole performance. She fired a 91 (+19) in the second round to finish with a 165 (+21). Sindlinger carded an 80 (+8) and 85 (+13) in the first and second rounds, respectively, to also finish the day with a 165 (+21).

Senior Karly Grouwinkel recorded an 81 (+9) followed by an 87 (+15) to finish tied for 58th with a score of 168 (+24).

Briana Midkiff rounded out the Iowa line up. The sophomore sits tied for 62nd place after firing an 85 (+13) and 84 (+12) to total 169 (+25) on the day.

“Tomorrow we need to come out confident in our ability to play this course,” said Menzel.

The Hawkeyes conclude action at the BYU Entrada Classic on Tuesday. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
