Logic Earns WBCA All-America Honors

April 5, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior point guard Samantha Logic has been named an honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The honor marks Logic’s second All-America recognition this season. She was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press on April 1.

Logic becomes the first Hawkeye to earn WBCA All-America honors since Kachine Alexander (honorable mention) in 2010 and 2011.

Logic was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection this year by the coaches, and a first team selection by the media, becoming the 18th Iowa player to garner first-team All-Big Ten honors, marking the most of any Big Ten program. Alexander was the last Hawkeye to earn first team honors (2010, 2011).

Logic (5-foot-9), the Big Ten leader in assists, is the only player in the nation to average 13 or more points (13.3), six or more rebounds (6.6), and seven or more assists (7.5). She led the Big Ten in league play in assists (8.0) and steals (3.0). Logic, who averaged 16.3 points, 8.4 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals in 11 games against ranked opponents this season, was named Big Ten Player of the Week three times, while also being named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll four additional times. Logic was named 1-of-22 watch list finalists for the 2014 Nancy Lieberman Award (nation’s top point guard).

Logic, who is third nationally in assists, notched three triple-doubles this season, becoming the first Big Ten player to record three triple-doubles in a single season. Logic is second nationally in triple-doubles; Alyssa Thomas of Maryland has four this season. Entering the 2013-14 campaign, there had only been 11 seasons in NCAA history in which a player registered three or more triple-doubles. Logic has four career triple-doubles, the second most in Big Ten history, and the most while competing in the Big Ten (Suzie McConnell of Penn State registered seven from 1985-88).

In Iowa’s First Round NCAA Tournament victory over Marist (87-65), Logic fell one rebound shy of the 14th triple-double in tournament history (11 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists).

This season, Logic surpassed Cara Consuegra (1997-2001; 576 assists) to become Iowa’s all-time assists leader. In Iowa’s 74-70 win at Michigan on Feb. 22, the Racine, Wis., native notched a game-high 19 points, becoming the 31st 1,000-point scorer in program history.

Logic tallied a program-record 269 assists this season, marking the fourth-best single-season total in Big Ten history. She has 622 career assists, which ranks ninth in league history. Logic is ninth in the NCAA among active players in career assists, trailing eight seniors.
