IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa diver Deidre Freeman will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for the World Cup Synchronized Diving Trials. Freeman will pair up with Maren Taylor of the University of Texas in the synchronized 3-meter springboard competition on Friday, April 11.
USA Diving will select one team in each of the four synchronized events to represent Team USA at the FINA Diving World Cup, to be held July 15-20 in Shanghai.
This spring, Freeman competed in a pair of FINA/NVC Diving World Series events. Freeman and Amanda Burke placed eighth in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event in Beijing, China, while the duo paired up for a sixth-place showing at their second event, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Two weeks ago, Freeman was 1-of-12 women named to the 2014 AT&T Olympic Performance Squad. A review of the squad is conducted at the end of each year, and pending U.S. qualification, a maximum of 16 divers will compete for Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games.
