IOWA CITY, IOWA — The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will kick off its long course season Saturday, hosting its annual Long Course Intrasquad Meet. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. (CT), and will take place at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) Pool.
The men and women will be split into a black team and gold team, and will swim a number of events using the long course distances. The meet will feature a 50-meter freestyle, done in knockout format. All swimmers will swim the 50 free, with the top eight advancing onto the next round. Swimmers will be eliminated until there are only two swimmers left. The final two will compete for the top spot. Other invents will include a 300-butterfly relay, 300-backstroke relay, 300-breaststroke relay, 100 freestyle, 200 IM, and 400-freestyle relay.
The intrasquad marks the beginning of the long course season for the Hawkeyes. Iowa will prepare for the spring and summer long course season, gearing up for the start of next season.
