IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa spirit squads tryouts took place at the UI Fieldhouse on April 25-27, 2014, and the Hawkeye cheerleaders, dance team and Herky Security members are in place for 2014-2015.
“All three teams have great returning veterans that will provide great leadership heading into a new season,” said spirit coordinator and head cheerleading coach Gregg Niemiec. “There is also an outstanding group of first-year members with a lot of talent coming into the program. We’re looking forward to a great year for the Iowa spirit squads.”
The 2014-15 Iowa spirit squads consist of: Ajdin Beslagic, Leah Brucks, Emily David, Kaitlyn Dornbier, Lexie Drevline, Sam Farrell, Morgan Figel, Taylor Foley, Mallory Gillispie, McKenna Gordon, Jessica Halyko, Alex Hardy, Christy Hunt, Kelsey Jarrett, Harley Klauke, Monica Lindsey, Payton Mass, Cal McCarty, Kelly McGinnis, Erik Kauder-Metcalf, Kayla Meyer, Chelsea Munday, Janie Myers, Alexa Oechsle, Javy Perez, Morgan Perry, Danny Poole, Alexis Puebla, Morgan Rabine, Brooke Raley, Holly Reimer, McKenna Rollinger, Wade Rollins, Eric Ryberg, Megan Schaefer, Danae Shemansky, Kelsie Sherbon, Hannah Solchenberger, Avery Stahr, Lexie Strom, Austin Tasler, Kelly Tocki, Alayna Vogel, Nathan Volk, Cari Wadman, Tori Wadman, Dan Waterhouse and Abby Zaug.
The Iowa spirit squads are coached by Niemiec, Jenny Eustice, Iowa dance team coach, Tommy Wisniewski, mascot coach, and Jenny Niemiec, assistant cheerleading coach.
The Iowa spirit squads can be seen at all home football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball games and wrestling meets. The squad can also be seen this summer at UI freshmen orientations, the Iowa State Fair, and various other events throughout the summer. All three team strive to reach Nationals in Orlando, Florida, in Jan. 2015.
