IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Melanie Pickert was a 2014 W-League Central All-Conference selection as a defender, it was announced Tuesday by the W-League, a women’s pro-am soccer league.
Pickert played in seven games for the Toronto Lady Lynx during the summer, scoring two goals on seven shots.
The Canton, Michigan, native started all 23 games for the Hawkeyes as a junior, leading the team with seven goals to go along with four assists. She earned second-team All-Big Ten and second-team NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region honors.
W-League All-Conference teams are selected through a vote of team management and feature some of the top young women’s soccer talent in the world.
Debuting in 1995, the USL W-League is a North American women’s developmental organization and open league that gives college players the chance to play with established international players while also maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
Iowa begins the 2014 season Aug. 14, facing DePaul in an exhibition contest in Chicago.
