IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa offensive lineman Dace Richardson will serve as honorary captain when the Hawkeyes hosts Northern Iowa Saturday in Kinnick Stadium (11:01 a.m., BTN).
Richardson is a native of Wheaton, Illinois, who was a three-year letterman from 2005-09. Richardson battled injuries throughout his career, missing the entire 2008 season. He missed the final four regular season games in 2009 before returning to play in the Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech.
Richardson earned the Comeback Player of the Year Award as a senior and was named first team All-Big Ten by the league coaches. He started the first four games of his final season before being injured in Iowa’s last-second win at Michigan State. Richardson played both left and right tackle during his career.
Richardson joined the Hawkeye program after a highly-successful prep career, participating in the Army All-American Bowl following his senior season. He was one of five true freshmen to see action in 2005. During his Iowa career, the Hawkeyes competed in the Outback Bowl following the 2005 and 2008 seasons before the Orange Bowl win in his final game as a Hawkeye.
Richardson will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for Saturday’s pregame coin toss. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game, and on the sidelines during the contest.
