IOWA CITY, Iowa – The UI Athletics Department asked fans of the Iowa football team for feedback, got it, and is acting on that feedback today as it begins sales of season tickets to the seven home games of the 2015 Hawkeyes.

Fans of the Hawkeyes who renew their season ticket order or become a new season ticket customer by Friday, Mar. 13, won’t pay more for the game tickets that they did a year ago – the price of a season ticket for the general public will remain at $395 for the 2015 season and the price of a season ticket for a faculty or staff member of the UI will remain at $325. Fans will, however, receive $70 to spend at the concessions stands at historic Kinnick Stadium next fall and 30 percent savings on all they purchase during one pre-season visit to Herky’s Locker Room, the official team store of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“For the past few years we have been making a concerted effort to ask for feedback and to act as best we can on that feedback, particularly what we received from our season ticket customers. Last fall, this group told us they wanted a little more bang for the buck, something special just for them. Given the significant investment they make in terms of money, time, and emotion, we agreed that acting on this feedback was important,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate director of athletics for external relations.

“All of our fans are incredibly loyal and, on game days, they are difference-makers. They provide tremendous energy and a home-field advantage that is as good as any in the country. We’re not only asking them to renew a season ticket order, but to renew their support of our football program and our student-athletes. Their purchase of season tickets will help us regain the momentum we’ve lost and make a positive statement about our determination to return the Iowa football program to a position of national prominence.”

Klatt said the feedback the UI is acting on has come primarily in two forms: For the past two seasons the department has participated in a national survey of college football fans and, to no surprise to Klatt, the number of fans of the Hawkeyes who have participated in those surveys ranked among the best of the participating schools. “Our fans are very engaged (in the football program). They care deeply about it,” Klatt said.

“Our staff also does an excellent job of talking to our fans throughout the year and, particularly, on game days. So, when a group as important as our season ticket holders in football express a concern or share a suggestion, we listen and listen closely, and work hard to figure out a way to address their concerns or act on their suggestions.”

Two years ago, the UI used the feedback it received in the first national survey and others it conducted along with anecdotal feedback it received from conversations with and communications from fans when making adjustments to its game-day experience. Those adjustments resulted in increases in the scores fans who responded to this year’s survey gave when rating their overall satisfaction and how their experience at Kinnick compared to the ideal live event experience.

This year the focus has been on the feedback from season ticket customers and one of the results is the special offers attached to the purchase of season tickets.

“Again, our season ticket customers are the most important fans we have. They are making the most significant investment in terms of time, money, and emotion. Most are also participants in the National I-Club and many have been incredibly generous in terms of their support of capital projects for our football program and many of our other programs. It only makes sense to listen really closely when this group is speaking,” said Klatt.

It’s worth noting that inside the feedback there’s also affirmation of some of the priorities of the department. For example, the UI Athletics Department has long taken seriously its responsibility to the “Graduate” leg of the three-legged stool, “Win. Graduate. Do it Right.” In fact, the UI established new records for graduation rate and in the NCAA’s GSR – Graduation Success Rate – last year. In addition, the graduation rates for the Iowa football program routinely outpace those of its peers nationally.

This commitment was noted by fans of the Hawkeyes who participated in last year’s survey: When asked about the UI’s “Commitment to academic excellence,” respondents said this piece of the customer experience scored a 7.3 in terms of importance and a 7.6 in terms of satisfaction.

The UI is also committed to providing a safe game-day environment. When asked to rate their “Feeling of safety,” respondents gave a rating of 7.4 in terms of importance and an 8.3 in terms of satisfaction.

“In these cases, we are `Doing it Right’ and it’s gratifying to know our fans appreciate and acknowledge that,” said Klatt.

The UI Athletics Department will announced plans for single-game tickets, group sales tickets, and UI student season tickets later this month.
