IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa students interested in supporting the Iowa football team next fall have another reason to cheer: An opportunity to save $50 on the purchase of their 2015 Iowa football student season tickets.

Current UI students will pay only $125 — almost a 30 percent discount from the regular price — for their season ticket to the seven-game home schedule of the 2015 Iowa football team if they place their order by Friday, May 15.

Students new to the UI this fall semester — incoming freshmen and transfer students — will also have the same opportunity to realize a savings on their purchase of season tickets. This group of students will pay $125 if they place their 2015 Iowa football season ticket order by Friday, July 31.

The regular price of a season ticket for UI students in 2015 is $175, the same as last year. The cost of a 2015 student guest ticket is $240, also the same as a year ago.

UI students who purchase their football season ticket by Friday, July 31, are guaranteed a seat location inside the student section of Kinnick Stadium.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to make this piece of the experience of being a student at the University of Iowa more affordable. We’re anxious to have our student section as loud and proud as possible, and filled with UI students eager to provide our football team a home field advantage that compares favorably with the best in college football,” said Rick Klatt, associate athletics director for external relations at the UI.

Klatt said the UI `s decision to provide current and future students a window of opportunity to purchase their season ticket at a discount is in response to a number of factors, including a national trend in the decline of student attendance at college football games.

“Like many of our peer institutions in the Big Ten Conference and nationally, attendance by UI students at our home football games is still significant — more than 6,000 UI students purchased a season ticket a year ago — but not where we would like it to be. We’ve talked with our students and they told us that they consider price when making their decision to buy. They also consider what their friends are doing in addition to the need to balance their interest in attending our football games against the challenges of meeting their academic demands and, in many cases, the need to work,” said Klatt.

“The goal is to make the purchase of a season ticket more affordable so that more UI students agree that spending a portion of seven Saturdays at Kinnick cheering their football team is something fun that adds to their experience as a student at the UI.”

UI students can purchase their 2015 Iowa football student season tickets online by visiting hawkeyesports.com and following the instructions for UI students behind the “Buy Tickets” link. Orders can also be placed in person at the UI Athletics Ticket Office in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
