ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Senior Amy Ihm and sophomore Morgan Kukla kicked off competition at the 21st Annual Phil Koshin Illinois Women’s Open at the Mistwood Golf Club today.
The 54-hole competition runs through Wednesday. Ihm and Kukla teed off at 8:10 a.m. (CT) and 9:20 a.m. (CT), respectively. The competition continues on Tuesday with a 7:45 a.m. (CT) start time. After the second round, the field will be cut to the low 40 percent plus ties.
Ihm enters this week’s field fresh off a top-10 finish at the Iowa Women’s Amateur at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, Iowa, on July 15. Ihm recorded a sixth-place finish at the event, firing a three-round 223 (+10; 72, 79, 72). The senior carded a one-over-par 72 in the first and third rounds en route to her top 10 finish.
Ihm competed in all six spring competitions, tallying a 76.7 scoring average — the third best average on the team. The senior shot a season-low second round 70 (-2) at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona, and earned a top-12 finish at the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah, with a three round 220 (+4; 75, 74 and 71).
Kukla made her collegiate debut at the Diane Thomason Invitational on Oct. 4, 2014. The Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, native played in two tournaments in the spring. As an individual, Kulka carded a two round score of 157 (+13) with rounds of 79 and 78 at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois, to finish the tournament tied for fourth.
