SASKATOON, CANADA — University of Iowa women’s golfer Jessica Ip began competition at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship today. The competition, taking place at Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon, Canada, runs through Friday. After severe weather made the course unplayable on Tuesday, the first round of the tournament was pushed to this morning.
The sophomore teed off at 8:40 a.m. (CT), with her second round to follow at 5:10 p.m. (CT). The low 70 players and ties will move on to the final two rounds and tee off at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Thursday and Friday.
This is the third Canadian event Ip has competed in this summer. The Richmond Hill, Ontario, native tied for 15th at the Golf Association of Ontario’s (GAO) Investors Group Women’s Amateur on July 10th at the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club.
Ip tied for ninth place at the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship on July 17, carding a four-round total of 314 (+26; 78, 77, 77, 82) at the Loch March Golf and Country Club in Kanata, Ontario.
Ip impressed in her first season for the Hawkeyes, competing in all six spring competitions and posting a 77.7 scoring average. She paced the team with a 12th-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invite on April 18-19, carding a three-round 226 (+10) with rounds of 73, 73, and 80.
