Ihm Competes at NCAA Bryan Regional

First Round Results

BRYAN, Texas — University of Iowa women’s golfer Amy Ihm shot a 79 (+7) in the first round of the NCAA Bryan Regional on Thursday.

Ihm — Iowa’s first NCAA postseason individual qualifier since 1990 — started the day on the back nine, carding a two-over-par 38 with birdies on 14 and 18.

The Peosta, Iowa, native hit her stride after the turn with six straight holes at par. The senior is tied for 78th with two rounds left to play.

“Today was a tough one,” said Ihm. “I hit the ball off the tee very poorly and had too many mistakes with my wedges that really cost me. My putting saved me a lot today, and I can look at that as a positive for the day.

“Fortunately there is a lot of golf left and anything can happen. Tomorrow I’m looking to post a cleaner round and get back to hitting the golf ball more freely and with less tension.”

Ihm is back in action at Traditions Club tomorrow, teeing off from hole 10 at 8:50 a.m. (CT).
