6 Hawkeyes to Compete at Olympic Team Trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Six athletes will represent the University of Iowa at the 2016 United States Track and Field Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon, beginning Friday, July 1. 

Current Hawkeyes Elexis Guster, MonTayla Holder, Lake Kwaza, and Aaron Mallett, and former UI All-Americans Bethany Praska and Erik Sowinski will compete for Olympic roster spots at Hayward Field on the campus of the University Oregon.

The top three finishers in each respective event will represent Team USA at the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, from Aug. 5-21. Former Hawkeyes Diane Nukuri and Troy Doris have already qualified to compete in Rio. Nukuri will run the marathon for Burundi and Doris will represent Guyana in the triple jump.

NBC Olympics will provide 16.5 hours of Trials coverage in the semifinals and finals of track and field events, including seven primetime telecasts, five on NBC. Coverage begins on Friday, July 1, at 8 p.m. (CT).
