IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team opens the 2016 season with a home exhibition contest against Northern Iowa on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Admission is free.
UI head soccer coach Dave Diianni will lead a Hawkeye squad that showcases nine incoming freshmen and one redshirt freshman. The Hawkeyes have six returning starters from last season’s team that won seven games, including seniors Amanda Lulek and Bri Toelle, juniors Rachele Armand and Karly Stuenkel, and sophomores Karsen Rauch and Morgan Kemerling.
Toelle and Stuenkel paced the team with five goals apiece, while Toelle had a career-best 15 points.
The Hawkeyes have won all nine matchups against the Panthers, which includes a 2-1 victory last season in Iowa City. Northern Iowa finished the 2015 season 7-9-5 overall. UNI is led by head coach Chris Logan, who is in his first season.
