IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa soccer student-athletes — seniors Amanda Lulek and Bri Toelle and redshirt junior Rachele Armand — were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Lulek, a defender from Geneva, Illinois, started 18 games as a junior, logging 1,478 minutes. In her career, Lulek has appeared in 59 games, including making 51 starts.
Toelle, a forward from Gainesville, Virginia, led the team with 15 points (five goals, five assists) in 2015, while ranking third in the Big Ten in shots (75) and shots per game (4.29). In three seasons, Toelle has scored 12 goals and had 14 assists.
Armand, a defender from Aurora, Illinois, was Iowa’s co-Defensive Player of the Year and the team’s Newcomer of the Year last season. The Louisville transfer started 16 games in her first season as a Hawkeye, where she had three assists and helped the Hawkeyes post six shutouts.
Iowa was picked to finish 13th in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Penn State, Rutgers, and Wisconsin were selected as the top three teams.
The Hawkeyes open the regular season Friday at Creighton beginning at 7 p.m. (CT).
