Hawkeye Fan Shop — A Black & Gold Store | 24 Hawkeyes to Watch 2016-17
IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Learfield’s Hawkeye Sports Properties, announced Monday that Rob Brooks and Jamie Cavey Lang will lead the 2016-17 broadcast team for women’s basketball.
Brooks and Lang, who will serve as play-by-play broadcaster and analyst, respectively, share storied affiliations with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Brooks has been Iowa football’s sideline announcer since the 2004-05 season. Brooks has called seven different Iowa sports on radio or television.
Lang lettered at Iowa from 2002-05. She finished her Hawkeye career with 1,265 points and 506 rebounds and was a two-time All-Big Ten selection. She also earned her master’s degree in higher education from Iowa and is currently a career advisor at the university.
Without a doubt, Rob and Jamie will do an exceptional job calling games for Iowa women’s basketball this season,” said Hawkeye Sports Properties general manager Gabe Aguirre. “Not only do they have deep connections with Hawkeye fans, they will bring the passion, excitement, and knowledge of the game to the broadcast. They are the right choice, and we’re excited for the season to start.”
“I’m thrilled to call women’s basketball on the radio for the first time,” said Brooks. “I have done several of their games on TV, and what a great group to be around. It’s an exciting time for basketball at Iowa with the enhancements at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and I can’t wait to get going.”
Lang added, “I’m excited to be able to use my experiences from playing at Iowa and professionally abroad to add some insight to the Iowa women’s basketball games. I can’t wait to put on the headset, learn all the nuances of radio, and help paint the picture of the happenings of each game for the fans. I loved my time as a student-athlete at Iowa and can’t wait to express it alongside Rob this season.”
The women’s basketball team opens the 2016-17 season at home, hosting Lewis University on Nov. 6 in an exhibition contest. For additional details on UI women’s basketball, visit the official athletics website hawkeyesports.com.
