VALPARAISO, Ind. — Two University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athletes finished up competition at the Valpo Fall Invitational today.
Sophomore Tony Leto competed in the Flight C semifinals against Brian Pecyna of Valparaiso. The native of Downers Grove, Illinois, advanced to the finals with a, 7-6(2), 6-3 win.
Leto faced another Valparaiso opponent, Franklin Brozovich, in his championship match. He defeated Brozovich, 7-6(6), 7-6(6), to win the Flight C singles bracket.
Leto and freshman Jason Kerst played in the Flight A doubles final against Kyle Dunn and Brandon Ancona of Valparaiso. The Hawkeye duo fell, 6-2 to finish runners-up.
In Flight A singles action, Kerst played a semifinal match against Dunn of Valparaiso and was edged in a third set tiebreak, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8. The native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, placed third in his bracket after a, 7-6(3), 7-6, win over Johnny Wu.
