Valparaiso, Ind. – Three University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athletes competed today at the Crusader Invitational hosted by Valparaiso University.
Sophomore Jonas Larsen opened his fall season with a Flight A singles win over Felix Savard of Chicago State, 6-2, 6-3. His afternoon match against Mason Dragos of Butler ended after Larsen retired in the second set with Dragos up, 6-2, 2-0.
In Flight B, sophomore Tony Leto beat Ronnie Myburgh of Northwestern Ohio, 6-4, 6-1. The Hawkeye fell, 6-4, 6-1, to Valparaiso’s Brandon Anacona in the second round.
Senior Nils Hallestrand competed in Flight A doubles action with Larsen for a, 6-1, win over Tyler Cannon and Grant Esposito of Olivet Nazarene. The duo will face Aviv Ben Shabat and Ari Gerstein of Butler Saturday at 9 a.m. (ET).
Srdja Nikolic of Olivet Nazarene advanced over Hallestrand in Flight B singles play.
Larsen will play Charlie Emhardt of Valparaiso 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Leto will open his Saturday action at 12:30 p.m. against Kyle Dunn of Valparaiso.
